That circled plug is the whole job on the back of a G20. BMW calls the diff oil lifetime fill. We changed ours anyway, and this is how BMW says to do it.

Front and rear differential service for 3 Series xDrive cars built from 03/2020. From that date BMW fills both diffs with Hypoid Axle Oil G5. This kit has enough G5-spec oil for both diffs and new screw plugs for both.
What is in the kit?
- 2 x Febi 184247 hypoid gear oil 70W-80 GL-5, 1 L, made to BMW G5 (BMW 83 22 2 471 487)
- 3 x differential screw plug with O-ring, M22, BMW 33 11 7 525 064: one for the rear diff fill plug, two for the front diff (fill plug, plus the drain plug on cars that have one). Each one is tightened to 60 Nm.
The front diff takes 450 or 600 ml and the rear takes 0.75 to 1.2 L depending on the diff type, so 2 liters covers both with some left over.
Febi lists this oil for BMW G5 and G3. It is not a BMW-approved oil. BMW's own G5 is made by Fuchs (Titan EG 4399).
Which BMWs does it fit?
- BMW 3 Series xDrive (G20 Sedan, G21 Touring), built from 03/2020, without the M Sport differential
Not for cars with the M Sport differential (option code S2T4A). That rear diff takes BMW G4. Cars built up to 02/2020 take different oils too. Send us your 17-digit VIN before you order and we will confirm.
FAQ
- Do I need new seals? No. The service is fluid plus a new screw plug (with its O-ring) for every plug you open.
- Why the same oil front and rear? From 03/2020 BMW uses G5 in both diffs on cars without the M Sport differential.
