That circled plug is the whole job on the back of a G20. BMW calls the diff oil lifetime fill. We changed ours anyway, and this is how BMW says to do it.

Front and rear differential service for the G20 M340i xDrive with the M Sport differential, in one box, with the oils BMW specifies and the amounts ISTA calls for.
What is in the kit?
- Front diff: 1 x Red Line 75W-85 GL-5 gear oil, 1 qt, Red Line 50104 (meets BMW Hypoid Axle Oil G2, BMW 83 22 2 413 511; the front diff takes 450 ml)
- Rear diff (M Sport differential): 2 x Genuine BMW Hypoid Axle Oil G4 75W-80, 0.5 L, BMW 83 22 2 447 362 (the rear takes 1.0 L)
- 3 x differential screw plug with O-ring, M22, BMW 33 11 7 525 064: one for the rear diff fill plug, two for the front diff (fill plug, plus the drain plug on cars that have one). Each one is tightened to 60 Nm.

- BMW M340i xDrive (G20 Sedan) B58 with the M Sport differential (option code S2T4A), built up to 02/2020
BMW changed the front diff oil to G5 for cars built from 03/2020, so later cars need a different kit. Send us your 17-digit VIN before you order and we will confirm the oils for your car.
FAQ
- Do I need new seals? No. The service is fluid plus a new screw plug (with its O-ring) for every plug you open.
- Why Genuine BMW oil for the rear only? The M Sport rear diff needs G4, and there is no aftermarket oil we trust as a G4 match. The front takes G2, and Red Line 75W-85 fills that role at a lower price.
- Can I use the same oil front and rear? No. Front gets the 75W-85, the M Sport rear gets G4. Do not mix them up.
