• Additive: Liqui Moly Hydraulic Lifter Additive 300 ml (20004). Per Liqui Moly, it reduces hydraulic lifter noise and cleans oil passages; one full can (300 ml) is used with 3 to 6 liters (3.2 to 6.4 U.S. quarts) of motor oil, it mixes on its own and can be added at any time (shake well first), and for best results Liqui Moly says to use it with every oil change. It is a Liqui Moly product, not a BMW part, and using it is your call. These engines take up to 6.9 L, more than the 3 to 6 L Liqui Moly rates one can for.

BMW of North America's oil chart SI B11 01 15 (February 2017 revision) lists 0W-20 LL14FE+ from model year 2016 for these engine codes: B58. BMW's current LL-17 FE+ bottle (83215B800C3) replaces its LL-14 FE+ number in dealer parts listings, and BimmerWorld's BMW oil guide says LL-17 FE+ replaces the LL-14 spec for N20, B38, B46, B48 and B58 engines.

BMW of North America's oil chart SI B11 01 15 (February 2017 revision) lists 6.25 L and 6.5 L for the 340i, 340i xDrive, 740i, 740i xDrive, 540i and more and gives no figure for the other cars here; Liqui Moly's US oil guide lists '6.5 liter', '6.5 liter; 0.3 liter', '6.5 liter (Service fill)', '6.5-6.9 liter (Service fill)' and '6.5-6.9 liter'.
