Fitment and details
The chains, rails, tensioner and sprockets BMW lists for the N52 timing and oil pump drive, in one box (the oil pump sprocket is reused, see below). Both kits use the same Iwis timing chain and Febi oil pump chain. Premium adds Genuine BMW rails and sprockets and the Iwis tensioner; Value uses BBR Automotive for those. A rattle at cold start that fades as the engine warms, or chain stretch codes, is the usual sign the chain and its guides are done.

Not in the kit: VANOS units, valve cover gasket set, timing case gaskets (BMW splits them by build date: ask with your VIN), crankshaft hub bolt and engine oil; the oil pump sprocket (BMW 11 41 7 552 899) is reused unless worn.
Before you start
- This job needs BMW's camshaft and crankshaft locking tools to time the engine; turning it without them can bend valves.
- Replace the central and sprocket bolts BMW marks one-time when you take them off.
- Parts carry the maker's warranty, 24 months on most parts in this kit and 36 on the Febi chain. Keep your install date and mileage: a claim needs them.
