Questions about Valvoline MaxLife Multi-Vehicle ATF (VV3246)
Is Valvoline MaxLife ATF approved by BMW?
No. Valvoline's data sheet says MaxLife Multi-Vehicle ATF is not an OEM licensed product and that the vehicle manufacturers have neither evaluated nor endorsed it in these applications. Valvoline recommends it for BMW M-1375.4, ZF Lifeguardfluid 8 (BMW ATF 3+) and JWS 3309 (MINI).
Does ZF list Valvoline MaxLife for BMW 6-speed or 8-speed automatics?
No. MaxLife is not on ZF's TE-ML 11 list. ZF releases only ZF LifeguardFluid 6 for the 6HP units it ties to BMW ATF 2 and only LifeguardFluid 8 or 9 against BMW ATF 3+, and says only released ATF may be used for oil changes in 6- and 8-speed units.
Does my BMW need ATF 2 or ATF 3+?
The VIN decides. The E70 X5 (2010-2013), E71 X6 (2009-2014) and E84 X1 (2012-2015) appear in BMW's catalog under both ATF 2 and ATF 3+, so the same chassis and year can take different fluids.
The right fluid depends on your engine or transmission and build date. Send your VIN to support@ia-euro.com and we'll confirm it before it ships.
