What Makes It Special
The S63TU is M Division's updated S63. The Technical Update added Valvetronic to the twin-turbo V8, creating what BMW calls TVDI (Turbocharged Valvetronic Direct Injection). The turbos sit inside the V (hot-vee), shortening the exhaust path and improving response.
The goal wasn't more peak power than the original S63 but better throttle response, a more linear curve, and lower fuel consumption.
Maintenance Watch Items
- Rod bearings — the most-discussed M V8 concern; preventive replacement is common practice among owners.
- Oil consumption — some S63TU engines consume oil by design within BMW's spec; track use increases it.
- Turbo coolant lines — located in the V between the turbos, making access difficult when they leak.
- Valve cover & oil pan gaskets — standard BMW V8 leak points.
- Charge pipes — plastic connectors can fail under boost.
